About the event

Boogaloo Assassins are a Los Angeles-based 12-piece Latin band inspired by the Latin Boogaloo, Latin Soul, Salsa, and Latin Funk records of the 1960’s and 1970’s. A staple of the Los Angeles live music scene, loved by crate-diggers, Latin music afficionados, and dancers of all backgrounds, Boogaloo Assassins recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary of live Latin music, and featured in the August 1, 2017 issue of LA Weekly.

Founded in 2007 by members of the Los Angeles Jamaican ska bands Hepcat, Ocean 11, and See Spot, their 2013 self-released vinyl debut Old Love Dies Hard had the 7-inch underground cross-over hit single “No No No”, (a mambo version of the Dawn Penn reggae classic, now with 2.4 million YouTube views) and received club and radio airplay around the globe, from BBC Radio 6’s Gilles Peterson, original NYC hip-hop Dj Tony Touch, Santa Monica’s KCRW 88.9, and other local Southern California radio outlets such as KKJZ, KPFK, KPCC, KXLU.

In 2014 Boogaloo Assassins supported Innovative Leisure recording artist Nick Waterhouse on West Coast dates and joined the iconic Latin label Fania Records, with the re-release of Old Love Dies Hard, a 5-show celebration of Fania’s 50th anniversary in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City, and backed FANIA legends Joe Bataan and Roberto Roena. In 2016 Nick Waterhouse’s Pres Records released Boogaloo Assassins boogaloo original 7-inch “One and Only (Parts 1 and 2)”, now sold out. 2017 saw Boogaloo Assassins celebrate their 10th anniversary with a sold-out shows at Los Angeles’s The Echo, debut three new originals live on YouTube channel Jam in the Van, celebrate Los Angeles’s pioneering funk and soul monthly The Root Down’s 20th Anniversary, perform a tribute to and share stages with Joe Bataan, Quita Penas, Orgone, Jungle Fire, and the Expanders.
